FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Springfield, MO. (April 20, 2021) – Lawn Art With Neighbors (L.A.W.N.) is popping up near you April 23 - May 8 with public art on front lawns created by your neighbors in and around Springfield, MO. L.A.W.N. was established in April 2020 as a response to COVID-19, as an effort to encourage art-making and viewing as a form of bolstering mental health and community building during stay-at-home orders. In 2021, L.A.W.N. continues to thrive as an art opportunity open to all community members and art forms. L.A.W.N. exhibitions include sculptures, paintings, installations, video projections, podcasts, social practice projects, and more. In 2021, L.A.W.N. brings a whole new array of front yard projects and some recurring sites.

April Stublefield, a stay-at-home mom of two who enjoys adding creative projects to her family routine will participate for the second time this year. She notes “My son was 18 months old and just beginning to really explore outside when L.A.W.N. 2020 was advertised. In response to his enthusiasm and the strangeness of social isolation, I found myself wanting to celebrate our local natural landscape for bringing us so much joy.” Jordan Seyer, a Springfield-based painter whose work plays with abstract expressionism on a large scale, shares “I really enjoyed the experience and the energy that went into making my L.A.W.N. display! Not knowing who else was participating or what they were making was really interesting and it drove me to make my work as fun as I possibly could to match any energy other artists were putting out!”

L.A.W.N. 2020 included 65 lawn art projects created by over 100 community members. Viewers can expect to see as many or more pop-up art projects spread across neighborhoods this year. Please see the L.A.W.N. Site Map (https://sculpturewalkspringfield.org/sculptures/lawn-art-with-neighbors/) and viewing suggestions to locate the artworks nearest you. Take a stroll, bike ride, or cruise and enjoy artwork brought to you by your neighbors April 23 - May 8. Snap a photo and be sure to tag L.A.W.N. in photos with #LAWNSGF. Support this community project by purchasing an official L.A.W.N. t-shirt at greekcornerprinting.com, or make a direct donation on L.A.W.N.’s website. L.A.W.N. 2021 is sponsored in part by the MU Extension in Greene County.
