Art In Our City
Exhibit Details
October 20, 2017 - October 20, 2019
Located inside Avant Art, the Museum's new flexible social gallery.
Springfield, Missouri is home to a vibrant artistic community. This exhibition highlights and celebrates the creativity of our community focusing on artists living and working in the many neighborhoods that make up our city. This exhibition not only concentrates on the artists on display, but also their neighborhoods and what it means to live and work creatively in Springfield.
Pulled from an open call for artists during the summer of 2017, thirty-five local artists from twenty neighborhoods in Springfield's four City Council zones were selected to exhibit their work by Museum Director Nick Nelson. The exhibit rotates every six months.
Zone 1: October 20, 2017 - March 18, 2018
Zone 2: March 24, 2018 - October 14, 2018
Zone 3: October 20, 2018 - March 17, 2019
Zone 4: March 23, 2019 - October 20, 2019
Our Neighborhoods
Neighborhoods are the backbone of any city. Beyond geographic boundaries, neighborhoods define who we are by way of our ordinary, daily interactions with our environment and most importantly, our neighbors. Springfield, Missouri is home to 34 registered neighborhoods spanning the City. These include Neighborhood Service Areas defined by geographic boundaries and population density as well as Registered Neighborhood Organizations, which are organized bodies that promote the improvement and advancement of neighborhoods as well as neighborhood pride and bonds between neighbors.
Whether addressing zoning issues, participating in neighborhood clean-ups and neighborhood watch, or simply checking in on the person next door, neighbors help neighbors and these countless interactions make our neighborhoods vital and vibrant places rather than simply points on a map. Learn more information about Springfield's neighborhoods, or pick up a copy of SGF Neighborhood News, available at the Museum.
