School Programs

The Springfield Art Museum is a great place to learn! We can customize field trips and group tours to make connections between our collection and your curriculum or area of interest, and to meet the needs of your group. We offer guided tours and field trips, in addition to self-guided tour materials for groups of all ages and experience levels with art. Our field trips and tour experiences are offered free of charge and emphasize open-ended inquiry, observation, interactive learning, and can include art-making.

For more information about guided tours, field trips, self-guided programs, or to schedule a tour, please contact Museum Educator Jenny Schwartzberg at jenny.schwartzberg@springfieldmo.gov or (417) 874-2861.

5th Grade Field Trips

Each fall, well over 2,000 5th graders visit the Springfield Art Museum for docent-led tours. Students are encouraged to wonder, observe, make connections, make meaning, and sketch in our galleries. These field trips help young students realize a sense of ownership of the Museum's permanent collection and encourage return visits with their families. This program is made possible through a partnership with Springfield Public Schools, the Any Given Child Springfield initiative, our dedicated corps of volunteer docents, and the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates.

Transportation expenses for 5th Grade Field Trips are generously underwritten by the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates.
